Petoskey to Relocate Fourth of July Celebration Focus Downtown in 2027

Traverse City Cadillac, MI, October 12, 2026 — Petoskey is set to alter its annual Fourth of July festivities, with a deliberate shift in focus toward the downtown area beginning in 2027. This strategic change will see the city’s celebration reorienting its core activities.

The Sunrise Rotary Club has announced plans to expand its existing Hometown Block Party. This popular event is held annually in Pennsylvania Park. The club intends to grow the scope and offerings of this downtown-based celebration as part of the broader July 4th activities.

Concurrently, the Sunrise Rotary Club is actively seeking a new organization to assume responsibility for hosting the annual fireworks display. The club stated that it will no longer be organizing the fireworks show as part of the waterfront events. The specific timeline for the fireworks show’s relocation or the search for a new host organization beyond the 2027 shift was not detailed in the announcement.

This move marks a significant adjustment to Petoskey’s long-standing holiday traditions. The precise details regarding the transition of the fireworks show hosting duties are expected to be clarified as the new hosting organization is identified. The shift aims to centralize more of the celebration’s activities within the downtown district, potentially impacting attendance patterns and local business engagement for the holiday.

The decision to move the celebration’s emphasis downtown and to change the organization of the fireworks show reflects an evolving approach to community events. Further announcements regarding the new fireworks host and specific downtown event details are anticipated as 2027 approaches.
